Assuming you haven't been
hiding under your Pet Rock since the 70's you've heard of SEO. Search
Engine Optimization is the process of improving the visibility of a web
site in search engines via the "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or
"algorithmic") search results.
Google
and it's less popular search counterparts, BING, Yahoo, etc., have
fostered the explosion of an industry that didn't exist a few years ago.
It's a bit like the Pet Rock - not merely a passing fad or gag, but a
brilliant marketing strategy that made Gary Dahl a millionaire in less
than a year. The difference is, the business of SEO isn't going to
disappear in 6 months, and teaching it to play dead is an impossibility.
SEO
is more like a growing child - alive with energy, sometimes aggravating
and always ever changing. By the time you solve the mystery of one
phase they hurdle you into a new one.
